It seems the shedgoers are very sensitive about any sort of criticism. To be fair to them they do Home and Away and verbally support the club well most of the time . I think Clive having come back to City has seen what a lot of outside people see and that is that the club is rather dull and lacks energy . The supporters are all down and I understand that. City fans have been dragged through the brown stuff by the Court case and uncertainty . We have an uncertain future and seem to want to fight the world with fans saying they wouldn't go to the Abbey Stadium if we groundshared there and we will boycott games against Histon . Its crazy ,we are a plucky little club who has fought hard to get this far but not going to a game because it's Histon doesn't worry them it just means our team has one less supporter. We have got to stop fighting with everyone , start being a real friendly club not one that dislikes all the local rivals, the media and anyone else we can find. When you are in trouble in life you need as many friends as possible and we are in trouble like it or not. It is difficult for us to know the image others have of us but I think we are thought of as insular , unfriendly and lacking enthusiasm. But we have been through a nightmare four years . We have obviously got some strong qualities to have survived this far but we need to have a fresh outlook and support the club in all ways and it isn't just turning up for games . Just read Clives "last" post and suggest Sam T and Clive have pint together thursday in the Legends as you are both good blokes .

Clive - I wasn't referring to you or your liking for 1930s football (I didn't know you had one). Don't get me involved in this. Anyway, reading this as a neutral, your writing style on this thread and others makes you sound like one of these perpetual moaners that feel obligied to bombared newspapers with their view of how the world should be. In my opinion, it is this unfortunate writing style that you use which singles you out for 'unpleasant remarks', because at the end of the day, no-one likes a whinger.

Clive your point about apathy was a good one and I agreed with you. Your point about 'vandals' in the shed however was completely off the mark. It's hardly vandallism to bang it and make some noise and create atmosphere. This has caused wear and tear I grant you, but certainly not a mindless act. The repairs as I understand it, are only because of over the top health and safety rubbish. If that wasn't in place I am sure the Shed would have been fit for its final year anyhow.
Sam is a newish fan and he and Kate have set a superb example to others in getting behind the team on the pitch and become a driving force for fundraising off it, so again Clive I am sorry to say your criticism of him is also mis informed and uncalled for. Before people have a go - I was there paintbrush in hand 2 summers ago and couldn't make this years do. In the last few years we have improved the atmosphere no end and long may that continue. If you ask visiting and neutral fans I think the general consencus is we are a friendly club. Rivalry is part and parcel of the game. Even in the 60's there was that superb rivally I read about with Cambridge Utd in Geoffs book. This brough out the best of the game. I borught my housemates along to some games last year and they loved it. Even got my mate Gary to convert form being an armchair fan and he is going to be more of a regualr this season. I know Michael Ball has done the same with 1 or 2 of his mates. Of course we need more fans though, but more people coming will happen organically, and I believe we have the basis of a good starting fanbase at this level. Everyone needs to chill out. We have what I believe to be a very exciting season ahead on the pitch . Get behind Gary and the team and not bicker with each other. -------------------- We love you city...we do

Your point about bringing along potential new City fans is a good one. If you think about how much money a new fan brings into the club over the years with entrance fee, drink in the bar, programme sales etc., its definitely a good way to effectively financially support the club without personal outlay.

Calm down Jim. Never have my criticisms been aimed at you. What makes you think they were? Quite simply your post suggested ALL City fans lack energy and are NOT willing to help or support the club. That includes me then! As you have given us you full and deep understanding of the dire situation the club is in, you are obviously now going to share with us your action based solution! I feel that if I won the lottery big style and donated a £1,000,000 to the club, you find fault with it somehow! I'd so love to hear you describe in detail something GOOD! That's all. |

...suggest Sam T and Clive have pint together thursday in the Legends as you are both good blokes... I'm very happy to meet up with Clive and have a chat about all things City - especially in the lovely surroundings of the Legends Bar. But it can't be tomorrow - and I'm waiting for the "apathy" and "quitter" shouts now - the truth is I will be at the Folk Festival! Am I excused if I wear a City shirt? |

I thought the Folk Festival was for men with curly beards that liked real ale?
Ah, I see! |
